So instead of wasting the time running around leveling your Mining you may want to just BUY everything, mining in wow. If you don’t think you can mod for mining it then you should read this guide nowbefore you start.

This guide will help you level Mining from 1 to 600 by both gathering ore and smelting it. You’ll be able to save time and gold reaching 600 as fast as possible. This guide also includes some of the best farming routes available for Mining.
What’s in this Guide:
It is highly advised that if you get stuck on a Mining route in this guide, have problems finding nodes due to over crowding of zones, or want to be lazy, you should smelt as much as you can for parts of this Mining leveling guide.
Don’t forget to go back to the mining trainer at the mining in wow times so that you can advance your mining skill to each new maximum.
I strongly recommend that you smelt as much as you can for this guide, especially through the lower levels, if you don’t have the gold to buy the ore required to do this take a look mining in wow this Gold Making Guide.
The lower level ores you’ll be mining in the first several sections don’t have the best resale value and you can save a lot of time by simply buying them on the Auction House instead so skip to the smelting section if possible.
Mining 1 to 50 – Copper
Undead – Tirisfal Glades – The undead path for this mining leveling guide is fairly simple, mining in wow. You can pick a starting point anywhere on the line and just run the path mining along the way. If you are low level you may want to take into consideration areas on the map that might be too high for you to cross, if that is the mining in wow then just skip them and meet up with the path further down while leveling your mining.
Tauren – Mulgore – Mulgore is just a big oval so this mining route is really simple to run while leveling. Mob levels and aggro are not that important of a factor since you’ll be sticking to the outer edges of the map you should be fine following this part guide, mining in wow. You may want to skip leveling mining in the Venture Co Mine if you are too low of a level.
Orc & Troll – Durotar – Durotar is full of mountains and you could probably develop your own mining route if this one doesn’t work for you, mining in wow. I will let you know upfront that Durotar is a deformed piece of land and you would have to run all over the place to utilize a full mining circuit of it which can be tedious while leveling.
Blood Elves – Eversong Woods – This route is the simplest route to follow. There are other mines near West Sanctum and West of Sunsail Anchorage but if you’re looking for simplicity this is the route to take. The Deadscar is loaded with mines so if asrock btc mining get bored of going in circles I’ve added a point you can break off at halfway through.
Goblins – Azshara – Goblins have several options of where to go to mine, Azshara is one of them and can be done for some of the other Horde races as well by choice. The route stays up on the plateau and does a full loop around it. The red circle on the map is where you can make out like a bandit on copper ore as there are at least 7 nodes in that area that will spawn.
Human – Elwynn Forest – This mining path is for this part text mining keywords the guide is kind of obvious since Elwynn forest isn’t surrounded by mountains on all 4 sides. There are two caves to go into and if you run the alternate dotted line from time to time there are more nodes down the river near the Tower of Azora.
Night Elves & Worgen – Darkshore – Darnassus isn’t great for mining so you have to come to Darkshore to level it up. Darkshore is a huge zone, there are nodes scattered all off to each side of this route. The southern half is higher level range so do half circles of the route if that is an issue.
Dwarves & Gnomes – Dun Morogh – This is a route I’ve used many times for leveling up my mining. You can literally make your own mining leveling route in this zone because it is so mountainous. Just stick to the mountain edges, caves, and rises in land and you’ll be set to mine in this zone as shown in the zone mining map guide below.
Draenei – Azuremyst Isle – There are two caves on this route that you’ll want to hit up. If you are low enough level to get experience in the cave to the north you could basically just sit in there and grind / mine at the same time. If not then follow the entire route. There’s kind of a dead spot transition while going to the next good area when you go passed the lakes but it’s that or loop back the way you came, either is fine.
Mining 50-100 – Tin and Silver
Horde and Alliance
Hillsbrad Foothills – This zone, mining in wow, which was combined with Alterac Mountains in Cataclysm, now has one of the densest areas of Tin Ore ever noted on any map. By staying in the red zone and going in the caves there are a very large supply of nodes. Take a trip out of the area and run around the outskirts of the mountains when bored.
Ashenvale – This route is more spread apart than the mining in wow Hillsbrad route, but still a viable dgb mining cpu for Tin Ore, mining in wow. Stay away from the northeast section as it’s mostly Copper Ore up there. Stick to the internal ridges.
In addition to these mining routes above you could also perform full circuits of Wetlands and Redridge mountains for this part of the mining guide.
Mining 100-150 – Iron and Gold
Horde and Mining in wow forget to go back to the mining trainer so that you can continue leveling up, there’s nothing worse than mining and mining only to realize you haven’t been getting skill ups because you didn’t train and were zoned out.
If you are starting to run low on gold or are getting tired of mining and would like to have enough gold to smelt as much as possible from this point on I highly recommend you look at these gold making tips.
Feralas – This zone is loaded with Iron Ore and is probably the best zone to get it now thanks to changes to the zone from Cataclysm. Do a loop in the north and run some of the outskirts in the southern regions west of Camp Mojache.
Western Plaguelands – In this zone you’ll find a relatively simple and easy route to follow. Just doing an outskirt circuit of the map without going too far north or doing anything internally should be a pretty gbyte mining pool route to net enough Iron Ore on each trip around.
The Cape of Stranglethorn – This is my least favorite spot of the three to mine Iron Ore but it’s likely one of the best to find this ore, mining in wow. There are a few nodes out on Jaguero Isle and then by coming back across to the gorilla area and naga area you will net some Iron Ore.
Mining 150-200 – Mithril and Truesilver
You could still be smelting for this part and skipping the first half of this mining in wow leveling guide, but it will start to cost a lot more gold and you should absolutelyread this guide if you decide to smelt.
Felwood – This is probably the easiest route to follow as long as you don’t mind running through a lot of enemies while nvidia quadro m2000 mining it. This route should net you the most Mithril Ore, and is almost a complete loop of the outskirts of the zone.
Badlands – Here you’ll probably want to spend most of your time in the eastern loop or in the cave in the southwest. It’s not bad to alternate between the two spots but the eastern mining pages and southwestern cave are where you will level mining the fastest.
Burning Steppes – Dreadmaul Rock is loaded with caves full of Mithril Ore, you could spend all day just going in and out of the caves on the red spot but you’ll have to be dismounted most of the time and fight your way through some of the enemies, mining in wow. For a more peaceful route take the outskirt arrows.
Mining 200-275 – Thorium
For information on how to get gold to smelt through these sections of the guide take a look at this guide.
Keep in mind that Small Thorium Veins require a skill of 230 but you won’t be able to mine the Rich Thorium Veins till 215.
Don’t forget to go back to the mining trainer at 225 so you can mining in wow advancing your skill.
Winterspring – This is one of the best spots for Thorium hands down. Do this small loop and go into mining in wow yeti caves, or don’t do this loop at all and go to the northern part and run the edges. There’s Thorium everywhere!!
Silithus – This is another good zone to farm Thorium Ore in. Go into the caves of the hives if the big circle gets too boring. If you don’t want to drop into the tunnel systems there is still a decent amount of Thorium if you just perform the circuit indicated on the map.
Blasted Lands – This zone has a few good routes for Thorium Ore. The section in the southwest has both Small Thorium and Rich Thorium Veins.
Mining 276-325 – Fel Iron
Hellfire Peninsula – The easiest leveling route to farm some Fel Iron Ore is to stay in Hellfire Peninsula. If you are leveling up to make gold you should take a look at this guide before you level any further. For this section you can just loop around the orcs near the citadel but if you follow the entire leveling route around the mining map it will also be beneficial. Watch out for the elite area in the northwest area and there are some other crowded areas like the Pools of Agonnar that can be a headache while leveling. Remember Fel Iron can be used to skill up all mining in wow way to 375+ if you wish and you can skip the other sections of this leveling data mining russia src="http://images.almostgaming.com/images/mining/felironore/felironorehellfirepeninsula.jpg">
Mining 326-350 – Adamantite
Nagrand – From 325-350 continue mining Fel Iron when possible but begin to look for the non-rich Adamantite Deposits which become available for mining at skill 325. The best Adamantite mining mining scrypt jane is Nagrand where almost anywhere you look in the zone you can find Adamantite Deposits, mining in wow. Start by performing a full-circuit as shown below and then move into the inner water areas if those are camped or you prefer a change while leveling.
Mining 351-400 – Cobalt / Rich Cobalt
Howling Fjord – Remember you must be at least 350 to start mining the regular Cobalt nodes, the Rich Cobalt nodes require 375 mining. You can actually take Rich Cobalt to 450 for leveling if you wanted to (just like Fel Iron in Hellfire Peninsula for TBC) but just to pretend like you need to go outside of the first zone in The Wrath of the Lich King to max your mining I put up more zones and will have you mine the other minerals for leveling. But keep in mind you do not have to leave these zones. The first leveling map is for Howling Fjord, it’s pretty simple to follow, just remember the lines that go over caves want you to follow the line from inside the cave and not outside.
You can also use this gold farming guide to buy Cobalt Ore to smelt which gets you from 350-375.
Mining 376-400 – Rich Cobalt
Zul’Drak – There will be more Rich Cobalt Nodes in Zul’Drak if you are interested in leveling your skill beyond 400 on Rich Cobalt.
Mining 401-450 – Saronite / Rich Saronite
Sholazar Basin – You must be 425 to mine Rich Saraonite, you will find Titanium Veins along the way but you must be 450 to mine Titanium. Sholazar Basin is a miner’s heaven due to its structure and it’s very easy to follow the zone guide for leveling. If you could get one of the pillars to yourself you could farm / kill mobs for exp while working your mining up. Otherwise you can see that the main ridge around the zone is the hotspot for mining Titanium and Saronite, scrypt mining pool best with all of the pillars and streams/lakes.
At 425 you can also mine Obsidium if you wish.
Mining 450-475 – Obsidium
Mount Hyjal – You can start mining Obsidium at 425 if you wish instead of doing Saronite to 450. The best zone to go for Obsidum Deposits is Mount Hyjal because your other options are underwater. By all means if you like to play underwater try those zones out instead, but I found this to mining in wow more in line with the traditional way of mining.
Mining 475-525 – Elementium
Deepholm and Twilight Highlands – You must be 475 to mine Elementium. The best zone for Elementium is probably Deepholm. Uldum and Twilight Highlands have it as well and I’ve included a map for Twilight Highlands because it’s probably the best other place to go.
Here is the map for Twilight Highlands.
Mining 525-600 – Ghost Iron Ore
Here is a Map for Jade Forest. Yes it is EVERYWHERE!
If you want your skill maxed fast you can mine all the way to 600 with ghost iron ore and never have to move to a new zone keep in mind at 595 normal Ghost Iron Ore data mining trends go grey but you can get skill up from Rich Ghost Iron Deposits. However, at the top of this guide shows the more rare deposits mining in wow thier required skill level to obtain.
Alternative Smelting Guide 1-525
You can smelt most of your way to 525 and avoid actually having to go out and mine the ore yourself. For those of you who choose this method of leveling, it will be faster, and also more expensive. It can easily cost mining in wow of gold to smelt but don’t worry, just take a look at this gold making guide and you’ll learn how to make a brown coal mining of gold very quickly.
Fel Iron Bar
Enchanted Elementium Bar
For 340-350 you will have to actually mine or attempt to make Enchanted Elementium
For 375-400 you will have to actually mine
Hardened Elementium Bar
Ghost Iron Bar

Leveling Your Mining from 1 to 700
This page has been updated for Warlords of Draenor
Mining in Warlords of Draenor
Well, it’s a bit different from before. For one, one no longer need to have mining skill, at all, in order to mine Draenor ores. All you need is your Garrison. You do need to have mining as a skill to mine the ores that are scattered about Draenor and the rest of the world.
Mining nodes in your own garrison will help raise your skill level and they do award XP if you’re not yet 100.
Skill level for general mining is no longer required, you can mine the open world ores, anywhere, with a skill level of 1. The catch is that you will only get ore fragments until your skill is high enough. Ten fragments can be combined, with a click, into one ore piece. You can also sell them on the Auction House if you like.
Once you enter Draenor you should, if you already have mining, find a scroll (as a loot drop from mining any node) that will raise your level cap from where ever it currently it to level 700. It only raises your cap, not your skill. You still have to level it as before.
Why mine instead of just using your Garrison mine? If you need more ore or if you need the older ores for selling or crafting. Also you’ll be able to get more Primal Spirits. These are traded for other materials, just talk to the Primal Trader in your Garrison.
General Mining Notes:
Mining is a great little money maker and is easy to level. Several professions demand ores and the bars that miners can create from those ores. Both items sell well on the Auction House.
Smelting is the process of making your ores into bars and doing so will increase your mining skill. Gather 40 pieces of copper ore and then smelt them. You can do the same with most of the other ores, as well. It’s perfectly possible to level your mining to the max ranks by buying each of the various ores off the Auction House and then smelting them into bars. This is expensive, but it can be done.
Under level 90 you’ll have to mine in the open world. At 90+ you can use your garrison mine.
Who needs Mining?
- Miners looking for ores to smelt into bars
- Jewelcrafters looking for ores to prospect (to find gems)
- Blacksmithsneed bars to level their profession.
- Engineers use them for all kinds of gadgets
- Auction house traders who will sometimes buy out your ores (if you price too low) to resell at a higher price.
Mining provides XP. The higher the level of the node the more XP is provided. Nodes that are gray to you might also provide XP, depending on your level, your skill level, and the node’s level. If you are in a group the XP is split among the group, just like the XP from mob mashing.
Ores prefer some shape to their terrain. In any given zone travel along the edge of the hills and mountains. Skip the flat areas, ores rarely appear there. Sometimes you’ll find nodes underwater.
You’ll want a (flying) mount for leveling up mining, It’s painful otherwise, especially at the higher skill levels where the nodes are spaced out across the entire map making gaining skill tedious.
Mining and Smelting
When you pick up your Mining skill you will also get Smelting. With Smelting you turn the raw ore into usable bars. Smelting ore into bars will also level your mining skill. It’s entirely possbile to leveling your mining skill from nothing to the level cap just by smelting ores. Buy the ore off the Auction House (or from other players) and smelt away.
Just be sure to keep upgrading your skill so that you can be smelting ores that will actually level your skill.
Where’s the ore? A general rule of thumb is “anywhere the terrain isn’t flat.” Hill, mountains, ravines, boulder piles, underwater, etc. Keep notes on where nodes pop up and you find more easily.
Mining from 1 to 700
Consider grabbing the Tycoon Addon. Among other things Tycoon will put modify your main and mini maps to show mining routes for a variety of ores.
Just start mining where ever you happen to be. If your mining skill is “too low” for the node then you’ll just get fragments, but you’ll still be able to mine it, get the skill-up, and get the XP (if appropriate.)
If you’re 90+ and in Draenor you’ll find a scroll, when you mine your first node(s), that will raise your level cap to 700. You will also no longer need to see a trainer to raise that cap. Even if your skill is 1.
Under 90 you will still need to see the trainer every 75 points to raise your skill cap, though you can still try to mine any node regardless of your skill.

Starting Out – Mining 1-50: Copper
In Warlords remember that you can start mining anywhere, or even skip it entirely and use your garrison mine. If your skill is too low, in areas other than your mine, you just get fragments until your skill is higher.
Otherwise, if you’re mining while leveling from 1…
This part’s the really easy part, it should only take around 40-50 nodes at most and they spawn like crazy all over the starting zones. Teldrassil alone has no ore, of any kind. All the other starting zones are full of the stuff.
You can get the rest of your mining points by smelting your ore into bars and you will need to hit a skill of 50 before moving beyond copper.
Humans: Humans start in my favorite mining zone, Elwynn Forest. Seriously, it’s full of the stuff. Just run up to Goldshire, head along the path past the large lake and pick up what’s down there, and then check out the area surrounding the Logging Camp. Just doing this should gain you almost everything you need.
Hitting the mountains at the top of the map should yield a few copper veins, as well. Generally every single ore spot will have 2-5 mobs nearby or on top. Keep a lookout for groups of mobs.
Dwarves and Gnomes: Given the general association of Dwarves with Mining you’d think the Dwarf starting area would be the best place to start, right? Well, if you did, I’m here to inform you that your intuition is correct. Although *my* favorite zone is still Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh takes the cake as copper king.
It’s rather simple here actually, just run around everywhere with the ore detector running and you’ll be at 50 in no time, at which time you can train up and start mining and smelting tin.
Night Elves: Sadly for you NEs it seems that a lush forest enviroment isn’t condusive to the production of precious minerals, (eg: copper,) so you’ll have to head down to darkshore to start your skill gain. Once you’ve reached Auberdine head for the cliffs, east, and mine everything on the way.
The moonkin caves along the way generally hold 1-4 spots each, sometimes actually at the very back of the cave itself, and should get you a bit of skill before you hit the cliffs. The cliffs themselves hold a medium amount of ore, following them south will yield a good amount until you hit ashenvale. Once you’ve done this head west to the edge of the forest/coastal area and then north back up to Auberdine. Follow this pattern in a semi-square/circle until you hit that 50 skill.
Draenei: The Draenei areas also have plenty of ore. Just run along the hills and mountains and you’ll load up in short order. Both Azuremist and Bloodmyst isles are good.
Worgen: Gilneas has a pretty fair amount of ore, as well, mainly in the southern areas, between The Blackwald and Greymane Manor, and the northest, around Emberstone mine.
Undead: Your journey to gain mining skill as undead will begin at Deathknell, this is a fairly easy zone to mine due to it’s somewhat simple map design, not much in the way of big barriers, walls, annoying bugs, etc. to stop you. First thing to do is to head south following the cliffs all the way around till you hit undercity, run past as the city contains no ore, continue to follow on until you hit the Bulwark/Western Plaguelands and then north up to the scarlet monastery.
After you’ve hit the monastery skip around it and down to the coast, follow the coast west till you hit the cliffs again, at those cliffs head south to our starting point and loop again.
Orcs and Trolls: Orcs and Trolls have it easy, just like the Dwarves/Gnomes, it’s something of a just run back and forth around the huge barren red wasteland of a starting zone with ore finding on, get stacks, make a profit.
Seriously though, like all the other zones you’ll find it easy to get alot of ore by following the edges/cliffs, and durotar has a lot of edges/cliffs, and another easy path for low-levels is between orgrimmar and Sen’Jin Village(that small troll place immediately across from the valley of trials.)
Tauren: Mulgore is rather simple, it’s a big flat plain with ore along the corners. Just run around the edges of the zone with ore detection on and mine everything in sight, although personally I find mulgore to be the most boring zone I must say it’s also the least complicated of them all.
Blood Elves will find copper ore all over Eversong Woods. Same rules: follow the edges and hills.
Goblins will find their Copper veins all along the south and east sides of The Lost Isles
Mining into Gold (and More)
While mining is a great little money maker there are a lot of other things you can do, beyond mining, to make tons of gold. Crafting, for one. Playing the Auction House for another. Learn it all from one of the richest players in all of WoW.
